OCEANERGY AG becomes a member of aireg

17. February 2023

Stuttgart and Berlin, 15 February 2023 – As a promising startup in the field of Green-tech/Clean-tech, OCEANERGY AG joins aireg (Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany).

The goal of OCEANERGY is the reliable and low-cost supply of green hydrogen or e-fuels. These will be produced far out of sight on the open ocean in areas with the best wind conditions, fully ecological and with no harm to plants, animals or ecosystems.

With the KITE GAS/FUEL SHIP technology, green hydrogen is produced by wind harvesting trips on the open sea and delivered to H2 terminals in ports. The use of high-flying kites with the patented and unique kite propulsion system enables a highly effective use of wind energy. The technology allows the generation of low-cost, green electricity at all times. As this does not require any land for onshore sites, the technology is scalable worldwide.

Dr. Wolfram Reiners, CEO of OCEANERGY: “Our aireg-membership enables us as a representative of the production side to establish diverse contacts to purchasers of green hydrogen and e-fuels as well as to gain access to relevant information from the aviation industry and the political environment. We are convinced to make an important contribution to the future supply of sustainable mobility in aviation.”

Melanie Form, member of the aireg board, says about joining: “With OCEANERGY, aireg gains an innovative company with promising technologies for the production of green hydrogen as a member. For the decarbonization of aviation, aviation fuels produced from green hydrogen are a necessity. The KITE GAS/FUEL SHIP technology will play an important role in this due to its efficiency and at the same time environmentally friendly way of production.”

About OCEANERGY AG:
Founded in Stuttgart as OCEANERGY AG 2018 the technical development for technology of the KITE GAS/FUEL SHIP and protection of IP goes back to 2012. A team of 25 engineers, software, AI specialists and experts from Kite flight and from the maritime industry work on commercialisation of their technology. OCEANERGY operates a Kite Test Center in Cape Town, South Africa, as the “Cape of Storms”. The technology has been in the demonstration phase since 2020, and all development steps on land have been successfully completed. The next step will be a demonstrator ship, which will deliver the stress test for hydrogen production at sea in 2023. Furthermore, OCEANERGY offers an “out-of-the-box” wind propulsion system for large motor yachts.

About aireg e.V:
aireg – Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e.V. was founded in 2011 as an association of companies and organisations from industry, research and science. As a non-profit initiative, aireg is committed to the availability and use of renewable energies in aviation in order to achieve the ambitious CO₂ reduction targets of the aviation industry. The members come from all areas of the value chain of renewable energies for aviation: This ranges from research at universities and large research institutions, plant manufacturers and operators, biorefineries, the petroleum industry, engine and aircraft manufacturers, governmental organisations, non-governmental organisations and airports to airlines. The industrial members internationally cover a broad international spectrum, from start-ups to large corporations.
