aireg Sustainable Aviation Fuels Conference 2025
Why do we need to talk about SAF?
Aviation is a growth industry and indispensable for our global societies. In the coming years and decades, even higher numbers of fellow human beings will globally use aircrafts as comfortable and eco-efficient means of transport and travel. Given climatic and environmental challenges as well as the finite nature of fossil energy sources, air traffic is tasked to find alternatives to the currently used fossil-based kerosene. Besides technological advancements Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) will play a major, if not the key role, not only to substitute kerosene but to lead global aviation to a CO2-neutral future towards the “Net Zero” goal in 2050. Reason enough to come together to elaborate, talk and discuss about SAF. Therefore, aireg is aiming at bringing together pioneers, leaders, entrepreneurs, politicians, and scholars to engage in networking and discuss needed actions to achieve “Net Zero” by 2050.
Looking back at our successful SAF conference in 2023, we kindly invite you to gather with our 60+ members in 2025 for the “aireg Biennial SAF Conference 2025“ on June 23rd and 24th in Berlin / Germany.

“To achieve the climate targets in aviation, a rapid and sustainable market ramp-up of SAF is essential. This necessitates efficiency gains from existing pathways as well as the development and industrialization of additional conversion routes for SAF with high sustainability demands, including both biomass-based and electricity-based fuels (including green hydrogen). Therefore, I am especially looking forward to addressing these topics with international experts but also discussing global opportunities and challenges for the massive increase of SAF production.”
Siegfried Knecht
Chairman of the Board
“There are still a number of obstacles to the regulation of sustainable aviation fuels, which is delaying or preventing major investments in SAF. In order for Germany and Europe to establish themselves as attractive SAF production locations, this must change as quickly as possible. Looking at other countries can help provide new perspectives and incentives. I am therefore very delighted and honored to discuss SAF-related policies with various ambassadors at the conference.”
Melanie Form
Member of the Board
Managing Director
Further information
In order to achieve the international climate targets in aviation (net CO2neutrality by 2050) and to establish Germany and Europe as pioneers in international climate policy, a rapid and sustainable market ramp-up of SAF in Germany is urgent. SAF is generally seen as a decisive lever in international aviation for reducing CO2 emissions as well as other climate-relevant effects associated with contrail formation. Currently, less than 1% of the required amount of aviation fuel worldwide is available as SAF; this necessitates the rapid, worldwide development of a SAF industry, which should happen without delay. Germany is in an excellent position to lead the development of a global SAF industry, thanks to its strong industrial base and its role as Europe’s largest aviation market.
