Webinar | The next conversion routes

Freedom and mobility play a prominent role in today’s society. Maintaining this in the future requires a rapid and sustainable defossilization of the aviation industry. Sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) can significantly reduce the climate impact of air traffic. In addition to the HEFA conversion route, several other SAF production paths are now on the way to commercialization.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Harald Dialer, Chief Commercial Officer of HCS Group and Dietmar Huber, Vice President Power-to-X at Neste. Harald Dialer will present the current activities of the HCS Group to realize a plant for the production of 60,000 tons of alcohol-to-jet kerosene and renewable hydrocarbons. This would be the first plant of this conversion route and scale in Germany. Dietmar Huber will present Neste’s current roadmap (commercialization of eFuel production on an industrial scale by 2030+) in the field of Power-to-X. This includes the construction of a power-to-liquids demonstration plant in Espoo, Finland.

Webinar | Transition to carbon neutral aviation

Freedom and mobility are of paramount importance to our open societies – preserving these achievements well into the future requires a fast transition to carbon-neutral aviation. Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) are a key instrument to solve this challenge. Therefore, a steep ramp-up of SAF production capacities is an essential building block of the transition towards carbon-neutral aviation. In this webinar, we will learn more about systemic aspects of the overall transition towards carbon-neutral aviation and about hands-on experiences in initiating the SAF market ramp-up. We are glad that Ram Kamath and Dr. Julia Bauer will share insights from their vast experience in those fields.

Ram Kamath, Lead-Transition to Climate Neutrality at Bauhaus Luftfahrt (BHL), will present BHL’s Airline Decarbonisation Model, which examines various levers for a fast transition towards carbon-neutral aviation. He will present some preliminary results that highlight different transition scenarios and compare them on the basis of various KPIs, such as decarbonisation trend, SAF requirement and effect on DOC.

Dr. Julia Bauer, Chief Science Officer at Spark e-fuels will complement the system-wide perspective with the perspective of a SAF production start-up. She will characterize challenges for scaling up SAF technologies to commercial production and the solutions Spark e-Fuels has in mind for them.

Webinar | New catalysts for higher kerosene yields

In this webinar, we will be introduced to the CARE-O-SENE research project, which develops optimized catalysts for the production of SAF.

Dr Tobias Sontheimer, Head of Strategy Department for Energy and Information at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin and Co-Lead CARE-O-SENE Project: Accelerating Innovation: Industry and the Public Sector Partner to Tackle Global Challenges

Dr Dirk Schär, Technical Manager Marketing and Sales Catalysts at Sasol and Co-Lead CARE-O-SENE Project: CARE-O-SENE: Advancing Sustainable Kerosene through Catalyst Research

Dr Sontheimer and Dr Schär will share insights on the three-year 40m Euro catalyst research project CARE-O-SENE, coordinated by Sasol and HZB. The project is funded by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Seven partners and leading research institutes in Germany and South Africa (Sasol Limited, Sasol Germany, HZB, KIT, IKTS, UCT and Ineratec) combine their exceptional capabilities to research on next-generation catalysts for a substantial contribution to decarbonizing the aviation sector. The project sets the course for large-scale commercialization of green kerosene production in 2025 by developing a Fischer-Tropsch catalyst that will significantly increase kerosene yields. This will enable a highly efficient production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in relevant volumes and support the transformation of the aviation sector.
