Frankfurt am Main and Berlin, May 06, 2024 – The association impact (impact on Sustainable Aviation e.V.) and the aviation initiative aireg (Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany) have signed a cooperation agreement to work together to accelerate the market ramp-up of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).
Ulrike Ziegler, Chairwoman of the impact Board, emphasizes the relevance of the cooperation. “The decarbonization of civil aviation requires annual investments of around USD 175 billion by 2050, making the involvement of financiers an indispensable prerequisite. Cooperation and collaboration with aireg, an important stakeholder, is essential in order to take account of the excessive complexity of the SAF ecosystem and the risk profile of SAF projects. We look forward to working and exchanging ideas with aireg and are confident that together we can make an important contribution to achieving Net Zero.”
Siegfried Knecht, Chairman of the aireg Board, emphasizes the importance of this agreement, “Aviation is essential for global mobility, but it is extremely difficult to mitigate its climate impact. Financial measures and contributions from private investors are needed to effectively accelerate the market ramp-up of SAF. This is why the cooperation with impact, which, like aireg, is pursuing the goal of supporting aviation in becoming more sustainable, is particularly important. I am very much looking forward to the cooperation that has now been agreed on. With the combined forces of our members on both sides, we can drive forward the defossilization of aviation and get closer to the goal of Net Zero.”
