Hoya and Berlin, October 15, 2024 – eFuel GmbH has become a member of the Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany (aireg) in order to jointly promote CO2-reduced aviation, for example through the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
Synthetic fuels instead of fossil kerosene – this is the goal that the aviation initiative aireg has set itself together with its members from industry and science. As a company that wants to drive forward the development of innovative technologies to reduce new CO2 emissions in transportation, eFuel GmbH pursues the same interests and has therefore become a member of aireg. The association of ten medium-sized companies invests in technologies for the production of synthetic fuels, among other things. As its first project, eFuel GmbH acquired a stake in Caphenia GmbH in December 2021, for example, which has developed a power-and-biogas-to-liquid (PBtL) reactor for the production of SAF, among other things. The pilot plant “Germany I” in the Frankfurt-Höchst industrial park is currently under construction and is scheduled to start production in 2025.
“Aviation is facing the major challenge of drastically reducing its CO2 emissions. Synthetic fuels play a central role in this. With our membership of aireg, we as eFuel GmbH want to actively contribute to the development of sustainable solutions and, together with this new network, pave the way for a more climate-friendly future for aviation,” comments Lorenz Kiene, one of the three Managing Directors of eFuel GmbH, on the new partnership.
“eFuel GmbH is a new, strong partner for our (aireg) initiative. Their expertise is an enrichment to further advance our goals of using renewable energies for aviation and sustainably reducing CO2 emissions. The accession of eFuel GmbH will enable us to further promote defossilization in aviation and I am very pleased about the extensive experience that eFuel GmbH brings with it in the field of synthetic fuel production. Together we will work to make the future of aviation more environmentally friendly and I am sure that eFuel GmbH will make a significant contribution to this,” says Uwe Gaudig, Deputy Chairman of the Board of aireg – Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e.V.
