Essen and Berlin, September 26, 2024 – The Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e.V. (aireg) is pleased to welcome Greenlyte Carbon Technologies GmbH as its newest member. By incorporating its innovative Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, Greenlyte strengthens aireg’s network and significantly contributes to the advancement of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development. This collaboration marks a crucial step forward in the shared goal of decarbonizing the aviation industry.
Greenlyte’s unique DAC process captures CO2 directly from the atmosphere while simultaneously producing hydrogen (H2). This dual-output capability from a single process represents a groundbreaking advance in cost efficiency, paving the way for the economical production of SAF. By combining CO2 and H2 in subsequent synthesis processes, sustainable fuels can be produced, playing a vital role in reducing the carbon footprint of the aviation sector.
“Our membership in aireg opens up valuable opportunities to further develop our technology in close collaboration with leading industry players,” says Florian Hildebrand, CEO and co-founder of Greenlyte. “We are excited to contribute our expertise, benefit from the knowledge of other members, and forge new partnerships to create innovative solutions for the challenges facing the aviation industry. The future of aviation lies in scaling cheap CO2 and H2 and connecting different technologies along the value chain.”
Greenlyte views its membership in aireg as a key milestone on the path to commercializing its innovative technologies. With a strong focus on industrial research and development, as well as strategic partnerships, the company aims to reduce SAF production costs while simultaneously enhancing the sustainability of the entire value chain.
“aireg is also delighted about the joining of Greenlyte. With Greenlyte we gain an important partner whose Direct Air Capture technology has the potential to take the development of sustainable aviation fuels to a new level,” says Siegfried Knecht, Chairman of the Board of aireg. “Together we can further strengthen the technological and economic feasibility of SAF and pave the way for sustainable aviation.”
About Greenlyte Carbon Technologies:
In a world where rising greenhouse gas emissions threaten ecological stability, innovation and action are imperative. Founded in 2022, Greenlyte is dedicated to transforming the climate crisis through groundbreaking Direct-Air-Capture (DAC) technology. By simultaneously capturing CO2 and producing green hydrogen, Greenlyte significantly lowers the costs of CO2 and hydrogen utilization. This breakthrough enables cost-effective green fuel production and large-scale negative emissions. As of today, Greenlyte has raised over $20 million, employs over 50 people, and has launched its first commercial projects. Looking ahead, the company plans to grow its capturing capacity to 0.1 GT of CO2 p.a. by 2050 at less than $100 per ton.
