
Hamburg and Berlin, 18 June, 2025 – Hamburg Aviation and the Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany (aireg) are proud to announce their strategic partnership aimed at fostering the rapid market development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing SAF adoption by shaping the necessary framework conditions for its large-scale deployment in aviation.
Through this partnership, Hamburg Aviation and aireg will engage in joint efforts to strengthen the SAF ecosystem by:
✈ Organizing joint events focused on SAF development and implementation
✈ Advocating for supportive policies and engaging with policymakers to drive SAF adoption
✈ Coordinating participation in key stakeholder platforms such as the RLCF and other relevant organizations
✈ Developing and disseminating joint communication materials to enhance awareness and understanding of SAF
✈ Collaborating at major industry events to reinforce the importance of SAF in aviation decarbonization
✈ Facilitating mutual exchange between association committees to share insights and best practices
By leveraging their respective expertise and networks, Hamburg Aviation and aireg aim to create synergies that will accelerate the development of a robust SAF market, supporting the aviation sector’s transition toward a more sustainable future.

The Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e.V. was founded in 2011 as an association of companies and organisations from the sectors of industry, research, and science. As a non-profit initiative, aireg advocates for the availability and use of renewable energies in aviation in order to achieve the aviation industry’s ambitious CO₂ reduction targets. The 60+ members come from all sectors of the aviation renewable energy value chain: This includes research at universities and major research institutions, equipment manufacturers and operators, biorefineries, the petroleum industry, propulsion and aircraft manufacturers, governmental organisations, non-governmental organisations and airports, as well as airlines. Industrial members internationally cover the range from start-ups to large corporations.
