Braathens Renavia joins aireg

27. March 2025

Stockholm and Berlin, March 27, 2025 – aireg (Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany) welcomes Braathens Renavia, a Swedish project developer of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), as its newest member.

Braathens Renavia is a pioneer in developing SAF production facilities in Sweden, capitalizing on the country’s unique advantages: access to large volumes of sustainably sourced biomass from its well-managed forests, a wide spread fossil-free electricity grid, and competitive renewable energy prices. This enables Braathens Renavia to deliver advanced bio-based SAF as well as eSAF (electrofuels) at globally competitive production costs.

With two large-scale projects underway – one in northern Sweden and one in the southern region – Braathens Renavia is well-positioned to meet both domestic and international demand for SAF. The company’s mission is to accelerate the aviation industry’s transition to climate neutrality by providing scalable, cost-efficient solutions.

Eric Matsgård, Co-founder and CEO of Braathens Renavia, comments: “At Braathens Renavia, we believe that strong partnerships with airlines are a cornerstone for success. From an early stage, we focus on collaborating closely with aviation operators to ensure that our SAF solutions meet their operational and sustainability needs. By working hand-in-hand with the aviation sector, we aim to support a rapid and commercially viable transition to fossil-free flying.”

Melanie Form, Member of the aireg Board and Managing Director, welcomes the new member: “We are delighted to welcome Braathens Renavia as a new member of aireg. Sweden offers great conditions for SAF production, and Braathens Renavia’s commitment to scaling up SAF capacity will be an important contribution to the broader European market. Partnerships like these are essential to achieving our common goal of climate-friendly aviation.”
