Chemnitz and Berlin, 26 January 2023 – With Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH (CAC), an international established company for plant construction and process engineering joins the Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany (aireg).
Having branches in several countries worldwide, CAC is an experienced contact for comprehensive engineering services. CAC´s business activities include the technology fields of chlor-alkali, power-to-X, hydrocarbons and chemical applications.
One of the new sustainable technologies developed by CAC is the production of synthetic aviation fuel (SAF) from electricity, water and CO2. This method of manufacture is unique in that it is a completely new technology based on methanol worldwide. The kerosene is produced completely without fossil fuels and in a CO2 -neutral manner, because the needed electricity is derived from renewable energies. The required CO2 is acquired from the ambient air or separated directly from industrial exhaust gases. The generated synthetic aviation fuel can completely replace standard kerosene in the future.
According to CAC, sustainable aviation fuels play a key role for aviation to enter a low-carbon future and for reaching the goal of “Net Zero” by 2050. The aim is to effectively reduce the dependence from fossil aviation fuels by the increased use of SAF.
Jörg Engelmann, chairman of CAC: “We look forward to active participation in the aireg working groups. With the current MtJ technology development, we foresee our already more than a decade of successful research and development work in the field of synthetic fuels. MtJ technology will make an essential contribution to the decarbonization of aviation and will also provide fuel such as e-gasoline and e-diesel for road transport as high-quality by-products and in compliance with the respective codes and standards.”
Siegfried Knecht, chairman of the executive board of aireg e.V., says about joining: “We are very delighted to welcome our new member Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz. The CAC technology for the production of a synthetically produced aviation fuel via the methanol route (Methanol-to-Jet (MtJ)) represents another important contribution to effectively reduce emissions in aviation. Projections indicate that SAF produced via this technology route is expected to be approved for aviation use in 2024.”
